Dublin: The next citizenship ceremonies in Ireland will be held this week.
The ceremonies are being held at the famous Convention Centre Dublin on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September 2026. Hundreds of applicants from around the world will officially receive Irish citizenship at this event.
More than 5,600 people will be granted Irish citizenship at ceremonies taking place in Dublin over the next two days at the Convention Centre in Dublin. The largest number of people granted citizenship at the latest ceremonies came from Pakistan, with 858 applicants. India followed with 716 and the Syrian Arab Republic with 425. Brazil is in fourth place, followed by Afghanistan, Poland and the UK with 246 applicants. The final countries in the top ten are Somalia, Romania and the Philippines.
The presiding officer at the ceremonies over the next two days is Judge Paddy McMahon, who will confer Irish citizenship on those attending.
This comes as new legislation introduced by Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan to the Cabinet is set to tighten the rules for obtaining citizenship. Speaking ahead of the ceremony this morning, Minister of State for Migration Colm Brophy said the new legislation, contained in the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Amendment Bill 2026, would be implemented by the end of this year.
Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has already sent official invitations to eligible applicants for the ceremony via email and post.
Important information for event attendees to know:
- Pledge Ceremony:Adult applicants attending the ceremony must formally take an oath of allegiance to the Irish nation and loyalty to the constitution.
- Identification documents:When arriving to attend the ceremony, it is mandatory to carry a valid original passport or other official identification document approved by the authority (ID Verification).
- Restrictions for guests:An adult guest can accompany a person who is receiving citizenship .Only adults are allowed to participate. Children are not allowed to attend the ceremony.
- Applicants who are children:Applicants who are minors are not required to attend this ceremony in person.
- Availability of citizenship certificate:After the successful completion of the ceremony, the applicants' Certificate of Naturalisation will be sent by post to their registered address.
If you have already received your invitation letter, please follow the schedule mentioned in it and arrive at the convention center on time, the authorities said.
