The weatherman predicts that it will be "mainly dry for the rest of today" before the rain warnings go into effect tomorrow morning.
Across Ulster and the north midlands, there will be sunshine. Elsewhere, there will be sunny and cloudy patches with the possibility of a few light showers in the southwest.
The day will be warm, with highs between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius and lows between 10 and 14 degrees evening.
Early tonight will be dry with extended clear periods. However, overnight, cloud cover will increase from the south, and before morning, rain will start to fall across Munster and south Connacht.
Tomorrow will see widespread rain that will become heavy and prolonged in certain areas. Localized flooding is a possibility as well as isolated thundery downpours.
Tomorrow's highest temperatures will be between 17 and 20 degrees.
On Monday, the prolonged downpour is anticipated to end before another period of "dry and excellent weather."
Festival Cancelled
The rain warning has forced organisers to cancel tomorrow's Harvest Festival in Waterford, they said this afternoon.
Today's celebration will now conclude at 8 o'clock.
Festival Co-Director Shona Dubois responded to the news by stating, "We have to say, we are devastated to have to cancel Sunday's programmes.
