Emirates: More than 140 passengers had to be evacuated on Wednesday after an Air Express flight IX442 from Muscat to Kochi caught fire and smoke from taxi number 2 during take-off.
"Flight B737- 800 registered as VT AXZ during taxi to take off at Muscat, experienced smoke and fire in engine no. 2. All passengers (141+ 4 infants) and crew evacuated safely.
"The passengers have been evacuated to the terminal building and a relief flight will be arranged to take them back," the official added.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Director General Arun Kumar said that an inquiry will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken.
