INDIA: New flag for Indian Navy to end colonial succession: PM to unveil in Kochi

Kerala: New flag for Navy to end colonial succession: PM to unveil in Kochi, Our navy is India's guardian in three seas. The end is the last colonial symbol on the Navy's path. From 2001 to 2004, the Vajpayee government had moved St. George's Cross. But later the UPA government brought back the old flag. In Kochi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils a new naval flag signifying Indian heritage.

This was in view of the demand raised by the Navy itself. Indian Navy gets a new flag completely ending its ties with the British rule. The new flag will completely erase colonial memories. The message released by the Prime Minister's Office says that this is in line with India's maritime heritage. This is the fourth time since the country's independence that the Navy's flag has been changed.

INS on Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the new flag while dedicating Vikrant to the nation. Currently, the flag of the Navy is the tricolor at one end of the St. George's Cross.

The current flag has a red stripe on the white flag with the national symbol Ashoka Pillar at the intersection of these stripes and the national flag on the upper left side. The red lines are known as St. George's Cross.

This is the flag from the British rule. It is this change that makes the Indian maritime tradition so evocative. It is not clear what will be included in the new flag, but it is certain that the St. George Cross will be replaced. The new flag of the Navy will also join the flags of the Army and Air Force. The new flag has been selected from 10 designs.

The Indian Navy uses a naval ensign with the national flag of the country on a white background with a red cross. Commonwealth countries generally used similar naval ensigns. The naval flag was changed in 2001. The 'Red Cross', considered part of British heritage, was taken away.

However, in 2004, the old flag was brought back with minor modifications. The flag changed to a red cross with Ashoka pillar in the middle. In 2014, a slight change was made again. 'Satyameva Jayate' was added in Devanagari script along with the Ashoka pillar. This flag has been replaced by a new flag that represents Indian heritage.

The Prime Minister will unveil the new flag when the country's first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is commissioned in Kochi. Reports suggest that this will probably be the last modification of the naval flag.

At the same time, the Prime Minister is commissioning the first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, as part of an important step towards self-sufficiency in the defense sector. Designed by the Indian Navy's own Warship Design Bureau, the ship was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a public sector shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Built with state-of-the-art machinery, Vikrant is the largest ship ever built in the history of India's maritime sector.

The first indigenous aircraft carrier is also named after India's first aircraft carrier Vikrant, which played a crucial role in the 1971 war. The fleet includes many indigenous tools and machines manufactured by the country's leading industrial firms and more than 100 MSMEs. With the commissioning of Vikrant, India will have two operational aircraft carriers. This will strengthen the maritime security of the country
