Several Ukrainian cities are facing a lethal barrage of strikes as Russia escalates attacks on its neighbouring nation. With the Russia-Ukraine war nearing its eight-month-mark, the crisis is far from being resolved. The increased military escalation by Moscow has left the war-torn nation with several civilians dead, multiple symbolic infrastructures taking a heavy hit, and several cities in the dark.

The sudden and intense military escalation comes just two days after an attack on the Kerch bridge linking Russia and Crimea. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscows strikes on Ukraine come in response to its 'terrorist' action, including attack on a bridge to Crimea. Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened a harsh response if attacks continue against Russia.

Calling it a terrorist attack, Kyiv claimed that Russia had fired at least 75 missiles into Ukraine, targeting the capital Kyiv and cities in the south and west.

Russia Escalates Attack:

On Monday, explosions took the lives of eight individuals in different Ukrainian towns, including Kyiv. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has charged that Russia launched several missiles and drones built in Iran at his country.

At least eight people were murdered and 24 were injured in one of the strikes in Kyiv, according to Rostyslav Smirnov, a consultant for the Ukrainian ministry of internal affairs.

Images from the Ukrainian capital showed people with blood on their hands and clothes. Air raid sirens were continuously blaring throughout Kyiv as a result of Russian missile barrages.

Russian soldiers reportedly fired at least 75 missiles at targets in Ukraine, according to the general staff of the Ukrainian armed forces.

"Russia, a terrorist nation, has used attack drones together with large missile and airstrikes on Ukrainian land. The aggressor fired 75 missiles in the morning. Our air defence was able to shoot down 41 of them "On Monday, general Valeriy Zaluzhny remarked.

After Putin launched a barrage of attacks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that Russia was attempting to eradicate humanity from the planet.

POWER OUTAGE AND DOWN

On Monday, power outages were reported in several Ukrainian districts that were being attacked by Russian soldiers. President Zelensky stated in a speech on Monday that Russia has two aims in Ukraine: the population and its energy infrastructure.

In light of intensified Russian attacks, Zelesnkyy recommended Ukrainian citizens to remain in shelters.

The Burshtynska thermal power plant in the Ivano-Frankovsk area reportedly came under attack on Monday. The station not only distributes power to the western Ukrainian cities, but also to Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. As Russia worsens the situation, the Ukraine's energy infrastructure is coming under tremendous attack.

There are internet issues in a number of Ukrainian regions. According to the Nexta news agency, internet issues are being experienced in the cities of Kharkiv and Zhytomyr as well as the regions of Khmelnytsky, Lviv, and Oltava.

UKRAINE'S REACTION TO AN AMPLIFIER OF ATTACK

According to Ukraine, Russian attacks on Monday caused damage to 11 significant infrastructures throughout the country, including in the capital city of Kyiv.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal remarked, "We must be ready for brief disruptions in energy, water supplies, and communication."

Ukraine's Air Force Command asserted that during the morning strike, the nation's air defences shot down 9 or 12 Russian kamikaze drones.

EU CONDEMNS RUSSIAN STRIKES AS A "WAR CRIME"

G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are scheduled to attend emergency meetings on Tuesday in response to recent Russian strikes.

The intensified attacks have also drawn condemnation from the European Union, which asserts that Russia's targeting of people constitutes a war crime.

Russia's missile assaults on civilians in Ukraine are seen as a war crime by the EU, according to a spokesperson for the bloc's top diplomat Josep Borrell on Monday.

Indiscriminately targeting people in a cowardly, heinous hail of missiles on civilian targets is indeed a further escalation, the spokesman said.
The European Union condemns in the strongest possible terms these heinous attacks on the civilians and civilian infrastructure. This is something which is against international humanitarian law and this indiscriminate targeting of civilians amounts to a war crime, he said.
