INDIA: ‘Aadhaar’ number registration of newborns, along with their birth certificates, is expected to be available soon

New Delhi: The facility of ‘Aadhaar’ number registration of newborns, along with their birth certificates, is expected to be available in all states in the coming months. Government sources provided this information. At present, the facility of Aadhaar Newborn Child Registration is available in 16 states. This process started a year ago and gradually many states got involved. Other states are also working in this direction.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) expects this facility to be rolled out in all states in the coming months. This will be easy for those people in whose house a child was born.

Everyone can enroll for Aadhaar - even a new born child. All you need is the child's birth certificate and Aadhaar of one of the parents. No biometric information is collected for children up to the age of 5. This information is updated when the child is five and then 15 years old.

Sources said the aim is now to ensure that the child’s Aadhaar is issued along with the birth certificate and for this UIDAI is working with the Registrar General of India.

He said this process will require a computer-based birth registration system and that this facility will be started up in the states where it is available.

According to sources, the message is sent to the UIDAI system when a birth certificate is issued in these 16 states. After this, once the details like photo and address of the child are received, his Aadhaar number will be generated.
