At least 437 Ukrainian children have been killed as a result of Russia’s invasion, Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office said on Saturday.

More than 837 children have also been injured in a tally officials said was "not final" because they were still verifying information from zones of active fighting, liberated areas and territory still occupied by Russian forces.

The eastern Donetsk region was the most affected, with 423 children killed or injured, the prosecutor's office said.

According to the UN, since Russia's invasion on February 24th, which Kyiv and Western governments have condemned as an act of unjustified aggression, at least 16,295 civilians have died. Moscow denies committing civilian targets.

As a result of persistent Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, Kyiv, the country's capital, the region surrounding the Black Sea port of Odesa, and more than a dozen other regions are currently experiencing power shortages, according to president Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday.

In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy added, "The situation with electricity supplies is severe in 17 areas and in the capital."

In reference to two regions in western and southern Ukraine, he remarked, "Things are really difficult in Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv - Odesa region as well as Vynnitsia and Ternopil."

According to the prime minister, Denys Shmyhal, half of the country's energy grid has been rendered inoperable by Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

With an estimated three million residents and up to two million more in the surrounding area, Kyiv is by far the biggest city in Ukraine. With nearly a million residents, Odesa is the third-most populated city in Ukraine and the center of its agricultural exports.

These areas were experiencing emergency outages, according to Zelenskiy. There was a program for "stabilization" blackouts in other locations.

Officials were attempting to restore power statewide following some of the harshest bombardments of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure during the past month of the nine-month war, as temperatures dropped and Kyiv had its first winter snowfall.
