Non-resident Indians along with embassy officials had arrived at the airport to receive the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister was welcomed in traditional Balinese style. Traditional dance forms were also arranged at the airport as part of welcoming Modi.

The summit will hold wide-ranging discussions on tackling global challenges. Prime Minister will interact with various world leaders during the summit," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.

The meeting between Modi and Xi Jinping will be the first since the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. The two had attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Uzbekistan last September, but did not meet separately. The Chinese foreign ministry has responded to this issue saying that both the people of China and India want to maintain good relations with the two countries.
