Dublin: Tolls on the M50 and other motorways will increase in line with the rate of inflation. 9 The usage fees of toll roads will increase by around 10% on January 1, 2023.
And all nine roads will increase their tolls by the "maximum" possible between August 2021 and 2022, taking into account inflation of 8.9%.
Eight of the ten toll roads on the national road network operate on a "public private partnership" model, while the M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel are managed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). TII has announced that there are no plans to change tolls in the Port Tunnel, but tolls on the M50 will increase by 20 or 30 per cent depending on the vehicle category.
Reason for increase in M50 tolls : “The M50 is a user pay funded motorway with a seamless tolling system. TII is required under legislation to maintain a safe and efficient network of national roads, and the M50 toll funds the maintenance and operation of the M50. Postponing toll increases on the M50 will require reallocating funding from other national road projects and reducing funding for asset management and renewal works.
Tolls are multiplied by the rate of inflation of 8.9% and then rounded to the nearest 10 cents. From the current €2.10 for a car on the M50 with a pre-registered tag. €2.30 will be charged from January. The biggest change to the amount will be for those traveling the M50 in an unregistered car, which will rise toll charges from the current €3.20 to €3.50.
Tolls will increase on 8 'public private partnership' roads, the M1, M7/M8, M8, N6, N25WF, N18-L,T and tolls will increase from €2.00 to €2.10 per car and LGV and bus tolls will increase. The plan is now to increase it from €3.50 to €3.80.
The toll will rise by 10 cents to €1.60 per car on the M3 in January, while the toll on the M4 will rise from €3.00 to €3.20.
Certain vehicles are exempt from toll charges, including vehicles used and used for official purposes by the Defense Forces, vehicles used by the GardaÃ, fire brigade vehicles and ambulances.
