Dublin: A tax-free payment of €1,000 to front-line staff was announced last January in recognition of their unique role during the pandemic. However, thousands of workers are yet to receive it. Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) and the Alliance of Healthcare Assistants in Ireland (AHCAI) have condemned "unacceptable delays" in paying some staff members during the pandemic.
The initial phase of the program involved HSE staff working in a Covid environment. Over 1,000 health workers across the private and voluntary nursing home sector have written to the Department of Health describing the extreme frustration and anger they feel over the delay in Pandemic Recognition payments to Voluntary and Private Nursing Homes.
Emails sent by nursing homes indicate that the government is taking action to ensure nursing home staff receive Pandemic Special Recognition Payments. For those who did not receive the email please check the email. A company called KOSI has been appointed to assist the government in the hope of being able to deliver before Christmas.
Next week, various nursing homes will have to submit a report on all employees who worked between March 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021, after which they will assess eligibility for payment. This includes staff who have left their jobs. All will receive emails from various nursing homes and related workplaces.
In order for you to be included in the application, you must confirm by returning the following information:
1. You agree that you will be included in the application for healthcare workers who were employed on the relevant dates.
2. Please confirm that you have not already received a Pandemic Special Recognition Payment (PSRP) from another source.
3. Confirm that you are not part of any other submission currently being processed by another employer.
4. Include your PPS number and job title during your employment.
If you do not include some of the information above, your application may not be processed, so please ensure that you include all of the information requested above.
You will need to confirm the above by Monday 7 November 2022 by replying to the email you received to enable the healthcare employer to include you in this application. If you have already received it elsewhere, you only need to submit one application to avoid delaying the progress of other staff members' applications.
They say we don't know exactly when the payments will be processed, so please just include the above information in your reply and you will be notified with more details as they become available.
