In a "chance encounter" with security personnel on Wednesday, at least four terrorists were slain. This morning a shootout broke out in the Sidhra bypass section of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway close to Tawi bridge amid thick fog.
"A truck travelling into Kashmir was seen making a strange movement. It was pursued and stopped close to the Sidhra checkpoint, but the driver escaped under the pretext that he had to go to the bathroom, according to the J-K ADGP, who was quoted by PTI.
An encounter ensued, during which the truck caught fire and the terrorists were killed.
The place from where the terrorists infiltrated is the subject of an investigation. The policeman predicted that after searching the truck, a clear picture would emerge. The truck's evading driver is being sought for.
Over 45 minutes of ferocious gunfire between the two sides were also marked by several explosions that appeared to be the result of grenade throwing. The vehicle, which was filled with husk and was totally destroyed in the shooting, was observed spewing smoke.
The ADGP stated, "The identify and group affiliation of the terrorists is awaiting."
