Germany: A shooting took place at the centre of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hamburg on Thursday night.
Eight people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting at a Jehovah's Witnesses center in the German city of Hamburg, police said.
Police said the gunman is believed to be dead and the cause is unclear. Seven people were killed and 25 injured in the attack, which began at 9pm on Thursday night, eight of whom were reported to be seriously injured. It is not clear whether the assailant was included in the death toll. Police said several people were seriously injured but declined to say how many had died, Reuters reported.
"According to preliminary findings, the shooting took place at a church on Dielbögestrasse in the Grossborstal district," "several people were seriously injured, some fatally. Police are on site with a large contingent of officers. The police notification clarified.
As news of the shooting broke, Hamburg police said a major operation was underway in the city's Grossborstal district. Several streets were closed and the public was warned by text to avoid the area. Local residents were asked to stay indoors and use their phones only "in case of necessity" to avoid overloading the network.
