Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of Rs 15,000 in the case of insulting the Modi community. The judgment belongs to the CJM Court of Surat. The court granted interim bail to Rahul.
A 30-day bail has been granted to appeal against the verdict. The court found Rahul guilty in the defamation case. The case is that Rahul Gandhi insulted the Modi community in his speech in 2019.
The complainant is BJP MLA Purnesh Modi. Rahul's remark was 'How Modi comes with the name of all thieves'. His lawyers argued that Rahul was referring to Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, accused in the financial fraud case. The court pronounced its verdict after hearing the case in detail.
