Washington: There are indications that the Middle East conflict is approaching a critical turning point. US President Donald Trump has said that a peace deal with Iran is in the final stages.
Trump's statement the other day was that there is a possibility of both peace and conflict. Therefore, the world is eagerly waiting to see what will happen on this issue today. Trump had also said that an announcement will be made soon, including on the opening of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency stated that no agreement has been reached on the issue of Hormuz.
Trump said that talks to end the three-month war with Iran are moving very quickly towards a final peace deal. In an interview with the media on Saturday, Trump revealed that there has been a lot of progress in the talks between the two countries.
Trump claimed that the deal would ensure Iran's enriched uranium was handled securely and would completely prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Trump added that he would only sign the deal if it included everything he demanded.
Both the United States and Iran have acknowledged that positive progress has been made in these peace talks, which are being brokered by Pakistan. Iran's Foreign Ministry has made it clear that the current proposed agreement is only a draft and that their priority now is to end the war completely.
Iran has made it clear that its main demand is the lifting of economic sanctions, and has indicated that more detailed talks on nuclear issues will only take place in the next 30 to 60 days. The reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz is also part of these talks.
Meanwhile, Trump has warned in another interview that he will discuss the deal with his advisers by Sunday and make a final decision on it. Trump warned in strong language that if diplomatic talks fail and the deal is not signed, he will launch another powerful military attack on Iran and that Iran will face consequences like no other country has ever faced.
The United States has been pursuing a policy of simultaneously advancing peace efforts and military threats since a temporary ceasefire was announced six weeks ago. Trump spoke by telephone with leaders of Gulf countries on Saturday. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Pakistan are pressuring Trump to accept the agreement.
If the deal is implemented, it is expected that more detailed negotiations will take place in the next 30 to 60 days and a permanent peace will be achieved. Trump has also warned that if the deal is not signed, he will resume large-scale airstrikes on Iran.
