What does ESTA mean?

Electronic System for Travel Authorization: ESTA is an automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

There are a few things you need to do to make sure you can enter the United States. Important things you should know while visiting.

Because Ireland is a visa waiver program country, approval must be obtained through ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) prior to travel to the United States. However, US Customs and Border Protection has announced that real-time approvals will no longer be available.

Arriving at the airport without a previously approved ESTA will result in denied boarding. People should now apply 72 hours before the departure date. Associated with the US Department of Homeland Security, there is a $21.00 USD per person charge to avail this service. People can apply for approval using the ESTA website. For those who do not currently hold a visitor visa and intend to stay in the States for business or pleasure for 90 days or less, you will only need to fill in some personal details such as a valid passport, email address and emergency contact point.

However, approval through ESTA does not determine whether a traveler is admissible to the United States
