Telecom and satellite companies will increase rates for broadband, mobile and television services.
Eir, satellite broadcaster Sky, mobile phone service provider Three and telecoms provider Vodafone are all raising rates. The increase will not apply to all Eir customers. Excludes GoMo Mobile, Pre-Pay Mobile and Open Air customers.
A mobile plan with a monthly price of €29.99 will increase by €2.40 to €32.39.A broadband plan with a monthly price of €65.99 will increase by €5.21 to €71.20. If a broadband plan priced at €65.99 per month is reduced to €34.99 for 12 months, the increase will apply to the monthly price before discounts.
Vodafone will increase rates by 11.2 percent for some customers from yesterday. Affected mobile bill payment customers will see an average increase of €5 per month. And broadband customers will see an average increase of €7 per month. The increase applies to mobile bill payment customers with contracts from 30 July 2021, fixed broadband customers with contracts from the end of January this year, and customers who have renewed their contracts from those dates.
The 11.2 per cent increase applies to Three customers who joined or upgraded between January 20 and the end of February this year. Customers on Three Bill Pay 100 will see an increase of €3.92 per month and €5.04 per month on Three Bill Pay 300. Three says the increase this year reflects less than 1 percent of its customer base. Customers who join or upgrade between March 1 this year and February 28 next will have the rate and 3 percent increase delayed until next year.
Eir, the biggest telecoms provider, will increase rates by 8 per cent for residential customers. Some business customers face rate hikes of up to 10 percent. Customers who joined or re-contracted on or after February 23 this year will not be subject to annual rate increases until April next year. Customers who signed up before February 23 and customers who received a price hike notice last year will see an increase in their monthly price plan from this month, excluding any discounts.
Sky Ireland said the average bill will increase by 5.1 per cent, or €4.51 per month, from this month. €54 per year at higher rates. The company said there would be no rate hikes on TV service from 2021 and broadband from 2018. Depending on a customer's package, it would be capped at €7 or 7pc.
