The Citizens Assembly on Drug Use is calling for submissions from the public and other stakeholders, and the Citizens Assembly portal is now open to the public.
The Assembly was formally established in March and, following its first meeting last month, is mandated to examine possible policy, legislative and operational changes to Ireland's drug policy to reduce harm to individuals, communities and wider Irish society.
The Assembly consists of 99 members of the public and a chairperson, ie the Committee, which includes former HSE CEO Paul Reid. A portal for submissions from the public to seek their views on drug use is now open on the Assembly's website.
"In due course, all valid submissions received will be published on the Assembly's website," a statement said. "The name of the submitter and the name of the organization, if applicable, will be published with the submission. Submitters can keep their entries anonymous by requesting a correction during the submission process. Additional personal information, including email address, phone number and address, will be used for identity verification purposes only and will not be published with the submission," "offensive or inappropriate content." The Citizens' Assembly reserves the right to consider the submissions involved as invalid," the statement continued.
Submissions will be accepted in written or video form, and the submission window will be open for eight weeks, ending on June 30, 2023. The submission form can be accessed on the Citizens' Assembly website here: https://citizensassembly.ie/drugs-use-submissions-form/
