Washington: Indian-origin has been selected and confirmed as the next World Bank president. Indian-Origin Ajay Banga Set to be the next President of World Bank.
The World Bank’s 25-member executive board elected former Mastercard CEO to a five-year term as president at a pivotal time as it looks to reshape its role to better address climate change.
He will take charge on June 2. He started his career with Nestlé in 1981. Since 2010, Banga has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of MasterCard.
In December 2021, after 12 years at the helm of MasterCard, he retired as CEO. He has also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, Kraft Foods, and Dow Inc.
