A status yellow warning for thunder and rain is in place for 19 counties across Ireland. The warning came into force in Leinster, Cavan, Leitrim, Monaghan, Tipperary and Waterford from 8am. Clare and Limerick have been added to the counties affected by the warning.
Met Éireann advises that there is a risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms in these counties and warns of spot flooding and poor visibility driving conditions.
The alert is in place until 10pm tonight and a similar status yellow warning is in place for six counties in the northern region.
