€4 tickets all day for any show; Ireland's National Film Day is "Saturday 2 September"

Ireland's National Film Day takes place on Saturday 2nd September, This year's initiative, supported by Screen Ireland, will see premium seats and 3D screenings reduced to €4. Around 99 per cent of cinemas in the country will take part in the initiative, including cinemas in all counties.

Participating cinemas will offer €4 tickets for any show throughout the day. There will be an additional charge of 1 euro for online booking

Last year's National Film Day had 200,000 admissions, making it the biggest film day of the year. Cinemas across Ireland are also offering discounted tickets this weekend so every moviegoer can catch a film for less this weekend.

Following the success of blockbuster films Barbie and Oppenheimer, Ireland's film industry is said to have come together to "celebrate the cinema-going ritual and its central place in Irish life". According to The International Union of Cinemas, Ireland has the highest screen density per capita of any European country, with an average of one cinema screen per 10,000 people.

Some say there's nothing like the magic of going to the movies. I want to celebrate National Cinema Day by catching as many movies as possible and re-watching some of the great movies I've already enjoyed at the cinema this year.

Cinema has been a favourite in Irish society for over a century and, along with most other cinemas in the country, tickets can be purchased through the participating cinemas' websites and at the box office throughout the day, including new releases. Various theatre groups also suggest checking local movie listings to see what people are showing at their local movies.

Arc Cinemas, Carrick Cineplex, Century Cinemas, Cineworld, Eclipse Cinemas, Eye Cinema, Gate Cinemas, IFI Cinemas, IMC Cinemas, Light House Cinema, Movies@ Cinemas, Odeon Cinemas, Omniplex Cinemas, Pálás Cinema, Reel Cinemas, and Vue Cinemas and many more are among the participating cinemas.
