AIB raises interest rates on savings accounts in Ireland AIB's fixed rate changes will be available from September 12, while all other rate changes will be available from September 19.
"AIB is delighted to announce another significant increase in income for AIB and EBS savers across the Regular Saver, AIB Fixed Term and Demand Deposit products, which will benefit all our deposit customers," said Elaine Downie, AIB's Head of Products.
AIB Junior and Student Savings rates and EBS Family Savings rate rise to 3%, while EBS Children & Teenagers Savings rates rise to 2.50%. AIB Online Notice 7 Deposit Account increases to 0.75%, AIB Demand Deposit Account and EBS Instant Access Account rates increase to 0.25%.
AIB has announced that it will offer up to 3% interest for 12 months on fixed deposits with the bank between €10 and €1,000. AIB Fixed Term Account holders will similarly earn additional interest. AIB also stated that there will be such an increase in interest from the middle of this month. Customers can open up to four savings accounts with AIB. This way you can get up to €48,000 per year at 3% extra interest.
Banks have decided to pay more interest to savings account holders following widespread criticism that banks are not paying their share even when they are making profits.
Earlier, Bank of Ireland and Permanent TSB announced that they would raise savings interest rates. As the European Central Bank raised interest rates to control inflation, loan repayments etc. increased significantly.
