In Ireland the Registration Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) has extended the validity of English language test results.
The deadline for passing the English language test has been extended for foreign nurses who have received a nursing job offer but are unable to enter the workforce due to visa delays.
It is mandatory to pass IELTS or OETS to demonstrate English language proficiency within two years of registering as a nurse in Ireland. A three-month extension is now available to applicants who meet all of the following requirements:
- Have previously passed an English language test with a satisfactory score.
- Have a test which expired within three months of application for registration.
- Have evidence of delay in application due to ATWS issues (evidence of rejections in 2023).
- Have successfully completed a compensation measure in 2023.
The NMBI has stated from October 10 that those who pass the English language test and register as a nurse in Ireland and the test period expires within three months, will extend the test period for another three months.
They must also provide evidence that they are unable to enter the workforce due to delays in obtaining AWS visas. I left my current job and have been waiting for a visa for months. If the test period expires, the promised job will be lost.
Registrants say applications are pending even as authorities say that the procedures for issuing AWS visas have returned to normal.
