5 people, including children, are in hospital after a knife attack at a Dublin city center pre-primary school

Ireland: In the attack on the city center pre-primary school in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, five people, including children, are in the hospital.

A five-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman are in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in an attack in Dublin city center this afternoon. Two other young children are being treated for injuries and are in hospital with minor injuries.

There was a group of young children outside a crèche (pre-primary) in Parnell Square East that afternoon. A person reached there and attacked the children with a knife. A five-year-old girl was seriously stabbed and two other children suffered minor injuries in the attack.


A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene before being taken to hospital after he stabbed three children and two adults near a school in central Dublin.



The incident happened around 1.30pm today, Thursday, near Gaelscoil Choliiste Mhuire, a primary school in Parnell Square East, a busy part of Ireland's capital.
Three young children, a man and a woman were hospitalized, while one of the children, a girl and a woman, were seriously injured, national television RTE reported. Police have taken one suspect into custody and recovered a large knife.

A woman who worked at the crèche and looked after the children was one of those seriously injured. The man was detained at the scene until gardaí and emergency services arrived.

Medical staff from the nearby Rotunda Hospital rushed to help. The children were taken to Crumlin and Temple Street hospitals. The woman was admitted to the Mater Hospital. Gardai contacted the children's parents. A five-year-old boy and a woman, who were seriously injured, have now undergone surgery.

The area has now been declared a crime scene and sealed off for forensic examination. Gardaí say they are pursuing a thorough investigation and are not currently looking for anyone else. They are trying to establish a motive for the attack but do not suspect any terrorist motive and believe it was an isolated spontaneous incident which is now under control.

Note: - They declined to say whether the attacker knew any of the victims - When asked if the attacker was an Irish national, they declined to comment - They said that while it's still early days and they are "open minded" as they look into motive, they do not believe the motive was terror-related Here is the statement: "Update 2: Serious Incident, Parnell Square East, Dublin 1, 23rd November 2023 An Garda Síochána continue to investigate all the circumstances of a serious assault which occurred on Parnell Square East, shortly after 1.30pm this afternoon Thursday, 23rd November 2023. Preliminary indications are that a male attacked a number of people on Parnell Square East. Five (5) casualties have been taken to hospitals in the Dublin Region. These casualties include three (3) young children, an adult female and an adult male. One girl, age 5 years, has sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving emergency medical treatment in CHI Temple Street. A boy, age 5 years and a girl age 6 years, who received less serious injuries were brought to CHI Crumlin for treatment. The boy has since been discharged from CHI Crumlin. An Garda Síochána is providing support to the parents of all the children. The adult female, in her 30s, is being treated for serious injuries at the Mater Hospital. An adult male, in his 50s, is also being treated for serious injuries at a Hospital in the Dublin Region. The scene remains sealed off at this time and a technical examination of the scene is ongoing. An incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed. An Garda Síochána is following a definite line of Inquiry. This male, in his 50s, is a person of interest to An Garda Síochána in this investigation. An Garda Síochána is not looking for any other person at this time. An Garda Síochána continues to have an open mind at this early stage of the investigation. An Garda Síochána is appealing to any person with any information on this attack to contact investigating Gardaí. Investigating Gardaí are also appealing to any person who may have mobile phone footage of the attack or the immediate aftermath to make this footage available to An Garda Síochána.
