New Delhi: In Haryana, the state of Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party has zero seats in the assembly. Party account opened for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. AAP candidate Mehraj Malik won Doda seat. BJP's Gajay Singh Rana was defeated by 4538 votes.
National Conference candidate Khalid Najib Suharwardi came third with 9894 votes. BJP's Shaktiraj won this seat in 2014 elections. AAP's victory shocked its political opponents.
The party has suffered a setback in the neighboring state of Haryana, months before the elections in Delhi, where it is in power. Kejriwal, who was released from jail after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in the liquor policy corruption case, unexpectedly resigned from the post of Chief Minister.
Despite getting bail, Kejriwal decided to step down from the administration and become stronger in the party leadership in a situation where the corruption allegations persist. Kejriwal is of the position that he will take over the post of chief minister after winning the Delhi elections next year.
AAP-Congress seat agreement failed in Haryana. It was AAP's state leaders who obstructed the discussions of the national leaders. Local Congress leaders were also against the AAP tie-up. Rahul's position was that the alliance is good so that the votes do not go to the BJP. This did not happen due to local opposition.
AAP's demand of 10 seats out of 90 was not accepted. The Congress was of the position that it would not give more than seven seats. Later, AAP announced candidates for all the seats. AAP's performance in the 2019 assembly elections was also poor.
Candidates were fielded in 46 seats but failed to win any seat. The last Lok Sabha elections also faced a setback. He got the Kurukshetra seat as part of the alliance with the Congress. He lost by 30,000 votes.
