Nagpur: The country is rushing with new projects. The central government is giving priority to the growth of basic sectors. Such a huge project was opened to the public. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated Asia's longest double-decker flyover in Nagpur on Saturday.
Nitin Gadkari said the flyover would help reduce traffic congestion in the city. The flyover has been constructed for a length of 5.67 km from LIC Chowk to Automotive Chowk. Four different transport systems have been built at the same place. The project has been completed in the form of a metro line at the top, a flyover below it, a railway track below it and a road at a single place at the base.
The project was completed by Maha Metro and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of Rs 573 crore. The project is 5.6 km from LIC Square to Automotive Square. With this, the record of 3.14 km long Wardha Road flyover in Nagpur has been surpassed.
Five metro stations have been set up on the flyover at Gaddigodam Chowk, Kadbi Chowk, Indora Chowk, Nari Road and Automotive Chowk. A steel bridge with a capacity of 1650 tonnes has been constructed near Gaddigodam Gurdwara. It is the first structure in the country to have a four-level transport system. The flyover will ease heavy traffic on the Kamti route.
This lane can be used by commuters to and from Kamatta. Fuel savings will be rewarded over time. The 5.67 km long flyover was completed after seven years of construction, after many setbacks from the initial stages of the project. The project was put on hold for three years due to issues including covid restrictions and land acquisition.
