A major accident occurred during the reception of newly elected independent MLA Shivaji Patil in Mahagaon, Chandgad taluka, Western Maharashtra. The incident happened when firecrackers, burst in celebration of Patil's victory, led to a fire during a welcoming ceremony.
According to reports, the fire broke out while women were performing an aarti for the MLA. A related video shows a JCB machine spraying colored powder into the air as part of the festivities when the mishap occurred. The sudden fire caused panic in the area, leaving several women and MLA Shivaji Patil with minor injuries.
The celebrations followed the announcement of Maharashtra assembly election results, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a majority. Shivaji Patil, an independent candidate, emerged victorious from Chandigarh, defeating his NCP rival Rajesh Patil by a margin of 24,134 votes. The joyous reception in his constituency turned tragic due to the unfortunate accident.
