Iran has criticized the United States for what it describes as illegal interference in Venezuela's internal affairs, denouncing the decision to recognize Edmund Gonzalez as the new president instead of Nicolás Maduro, the country's current leader.
"We strongly condemn the illegal interference by the United States and some of its allies in Venezuela's internal affairs," stated Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei. "This is reminiscent of the divisive interventions that the United States carried out in Venezuela in 2019. Nicolás Maduro is the legally elected president of Venezuela."
Baghaei's remarks underscore Iran's position against foreign interference, which Tehran views as a violation of Venezuela's sovereignty. The statement reflects a broader critique of U.S. foreign policy, particularly its history of involvement in Latin America.
