Dubai: For the past few days, news has been coming from Dubai that Lulu Group, which entered the stock market for the first time, is acquiring new records. Lulu is expected to raise more than Rs 15,000 crore through the share sale.
Many reports suggest that Lulu is going to take its business to new heights with the proceeds from the share sale. Lulu Group has big projects coming up in several Indian cities including Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam. Along with this, Lulu also has extensive plans in its home turf, the Gulf region. Lulu Group MD and Chairman MA Yusuf Ali said yesterday that 100 new stores will be opened in various Gulf countries within the next year.
Yusuf Ali clarified about Lulu's future plans in the Gulf region in a press conference held in connection with the IPO. “The GCC has a very strong economy and Lulu is a pan-GCC retailer today. The population is growing, so there is a need for more retail outlets.” MA Yusuf Ali said. Lulu Retail CEO Saifee Rupawala also stated that discussions are already underway to open 91 new stores. He also expressed hope that it will reach 100 with the completion of negotiations.
These figures are for the Gulf region only. The number of stores in countries including India is outside of this. The news that Lulu Group is opening more stores in the Gulf region is also promising for Malayali candidates. Thousands of job opportunities will be available only through the new Lulu establishments. “Currently we have 50000 employees and 240 stores. With the addition of 91 stores, there will certainly be job opportunities,
Khaleej Times reports quoting Saifi Rupawala. He also points out that it is not possible to say how many vacancies there will be as stores of different sizes are coming up. However, judging by Lulu's current number of outlets and employees, it is certain that the 100 new stores will require thousands of workers.
Naturally, the recruitment to these places will take place from Kerala as well. Lulu Group will open more new stores in UAE and Saudi Arabia. The main reason for this is the increasing population of expatriates. Apart from the Gulf region, Lulu is going to open new stores in African countries and Asian countries including Vietnam.
Coming to India, as mentioned earlier, apart from Ahmedabad and Visakhapatnam, Lulu has also announced big plans in cities including Chennai, Noida and Kerala.
