Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty Between North Korea and Russia Comes Into Effect

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, an agreement forged between North Korea and Russia in June 2023, officially came into effect on Wednesday following the exchange of ratification instruments in Moscow, according to North Korea’s state news agency, KCNA.

This treaty, signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Pyongyang and his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, represents a milestone in the relationship between the two nations. At its core, the treaty includes a mutual defense pact, committing both nations to provide immediate military assistance to one another in the event of armed aggression
