A devastating explosion at an explosives factory in the Karesi district of Türkiye’s Balıkesir province resulted in at least 12 fatalities and three injuries, according to Governor Ä°smail Ustaoglu.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. local time on Tuesday, with one of the factory buildings partially collapsing due to the blast, while the remaining structures were reportedly unaffected, Ustaoglu told CNN Türk.
Governor Ustaoglu emphasized that preliminary findings point to a technical malfunction as the likely cause of the explosion. “I would like to stress that there was no sabotage. We assume there was a technical malfunction, but a thorough investigation will clarify the details,” he stated.
The Center for Combating Disinformation urged the public to rely solely on official sources for information about the incident, cautioning against the spread of unfounded rumors or allegations.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that a formal investigation is being conducted by four public prosecutors under the coordination of a deputy chief prosecutor. This comprehensive inquiry aims to determine the precise cause of the explosion and ensure accountability where necessary.
The incident has cast a somber shadow over the region, with authorities prioritizing transparency and accuracy as they work to uncover the facts surrounding this tragic event.
