Farewell to a Visionary Leader: Dr. Manmohan Singh, Nation Observes 7-Day Mourning

 The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were brought to his residence late Thursday night from AIIMS, New Delhi. Arrangements have been made for the public to pay their last respects to the distinguished leader.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Dr. Singh’s residence on Friday to pay tribute to the visionary statesman and architect of India’s economic reforms. Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 92. AIIMS Delhi confirmed the news in an official medical bulletin, stating: “With profound grief, we announce the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was undergoing treatment for age-related medical conditions and suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26, 2024.”

Dr. Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, earning widespread acclaim for his leadership in spearheading economic reforms and enhancing India’s stature on the global stage. His contributions to the nation’s progress and development are deeply cherished, and his passing marks a significant loss for the country.

As a mark of respect, the Central Government has declared seven days of state mourning, beginning December 26, 2024, and continuing through January 1, 2025. A notification from the Union Home Ministry states: “During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across India, and no official entertainment will be held. A state funeral will be accorded to the late Dr. Manmohan Singh.”

Dr. Singh's enduring legacy as an economist, reformer, and leader has left an indelible mark on India’s history, and the nation mourns the loss of one of its most illustrious figures.
