PM Shehbaz, COAS Munir Discuss Key Security Concerns Amid Rising Tensions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir convened on Monday to address critical security challenges, including the aftermath of a recent PTI-led protest in Islamabad that resulted in multiple casualties over several days of unrest.

While the government withheld official details of the meeting, a source disclosed that the discussion focused on the November 24 D-Chowk protest. Both leaders reportedly resolved to take strict action against those involved in violence, including the killing of law enforcement personnel and destruction of state property.

“No leniency will be shown to individuals responsible for attacking security forces and damaging public assets,” the source said.

The meeting, which included top security officials, also reviewed the escalation of terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Officials provided detailed briefings on internal and external security challenges.

Additionally, the gathering deliberated on a renewed threat by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who warned of another march to Islamabad if PTI founder Imran Khan remains in jail.

The meeting also marked the 10th anniversary of the tragic Army Public School attack, commemorating the victims and emphasizing the continued fight against terrorism.
