Security operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan on Monday led to the elimination of six terrorists, while a police officer embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. The coordinated efforts by military and law enforcement agencies thwarted multiple terror plots in the region, according to official reports.
Kulachi Operation in Dera Ismail Khan
In an intelligence-based operation conducted in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district, security forces neutralized two terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). One terrorist was apprehended with injuries, and a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR stated that the militants were involved in attacks on security forces and targeted killings of civilians. A sanitization operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining threats. "The resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country remains unshaken," the military said in its statement.
Bannu Encounter: A Policeman’s Sacrifice
In Bannu, two militants were killed in a confrontation with police following the targeted killing of Head Constable Ali Bahadar Khan near Kiri Bridge. The officer, critically wounded during the attack, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The incident triggered a swift response from police commandos, including the Quick Response Force (QRF) and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The attackers fled to a house in the Miryan area, where a prolonged firefight ensued.
Regional Police Officer Imran Shahid reported that the suspects resisted with weapons seized from the house owner. Both militants were eventually neutralized in the operation. One of the assailants was identified as Safeer alias Hamza, a wanted militant connected to over a dozen terror cases.
Two pistols and ammunition were recovered from the deceased, and injured police personnel were provided medical care, with one officer referred to Peshawar for advanced treatment.
Foiled Attack in Qila Abdullah
In Qila Abdullah, Balochistan, two suspected militants were killed in a premature bomb explosion near the Levies station in Mazai Adha. Authorities believe the suspects were en route to target the station when the explosive device detonated in an orchard.
Qila Abdullah Assistant Commissioner Shahek Baloch confirmed the discovery of a motorcycle and pistols at the blast site. The bodies of the suspects were unrecognizable due to the explosion. This marked the fourth blast in the area over the past two weeks, prompting further investigations and the deployment of bomb disposal teams.
Leadership Commendation
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their successful operations. In separate statements, they lauded the bravery and dedication of the personnel involved in neutralizing threats and ensuring public safety.
These incidents underline the persistent challenges posed by militant groups in Pakistan and the critical role of coordinated security measures in countering terrorism.
