In a tragic incident, 22-year-old Santra Saju, a postgraduate student from Kerala, was found dead in a river near Newbridge, Scotland, weeks after being reported missing. According to her family, the Scottish police have confirmed there were no signs of assault or suspicious activity surrounding her death.
Santra, who was pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, had been missing since December 6. She was last seen on CCTV footage at an Asda supermarket in the Almondvale area of Livingston. On December 27, her body was discovered in a river flowing through a park near her residence.
In a statement, the police said:
"Around 11:55 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, police were alerted to a body found in the water near Newbridge. Formal identification is pending, but the family of Santra Saju has been informed."
A Promising Journey Cut Short
Santra Saju, the only child of Saju and Ancy, hailed from Perumbavoor in Kerala’s Ernakulam district. She completed her schooling in the UAE and earned her undergraduate degree in Kochi before moving to Scotland to further her education.
Family and Investigation
The family expressed their appreciation for the police investigation, which they described as thorough and transparent. A relative told to the media:
"The police investigated rigorously from the day she was reported missing and kept the family informed throughout. They have examined CCTV footage and found nothing suspicious. We have no complaints about the investigation."
The discovery of Santra’s body has left her family, friends, and community in deep mourning. Authorities have not yet concluded the formal identification process, but the incident underscores the grief of a promising life ended abruptly.
