With less than two weeks remaining for the Delhi Assembly elections, senior BJP leader Amit Shah unveiled a series of promises on Saturday, including cleaning the Yamuna River within three years, granting full ownership rights to residents of 1,700 unauthorised colonies, and introducing welfare measures for gig workers and labourers.
The BJP's manifesto, released as part of the final segment of its 'Sankalp Patra' for the February 5 elections, included a pledge to provide free travel worth up to ₹4,000 annually for underprivileged students using the Delhi Metro under the National Common Mobility Card scheme.
Shah further highlighted that, if elected, the BJP would ensure full ownership rights for residents of 1,700 unauthorised colonies, enabling legal sale, purchase, and construction activities. He also assured that ongoing welfare initiatives for the underprivileged in Delhi would continue uninterrupted.
Outlining additional commitments, Shah announced plans to establish a welfare board for gig workers, offering ₹10 lakh in insurance coverage and ₹5 lakh in accident cover. He also promised to fill 50,000 government vacancies transparently, create 20 lakh self-employment opportunities, and develop a grand Mahabharat Corridor to boost cultural heritage.
The Union Home Minister detailed the Centre's infrastructure investments in Delhi, citing ₹41,000 crore for roads, ₹15,000 crore for railway projects, and ₹21,000 crore for airport development. He emphasized that these contributions were crucial to making Delhi a livable city.
Shah also accused the AAP government of unprecedented levels of corruption, alleging scams during its tenure and reiterating the BJP’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
