The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released the second installment of its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, promising free education "from KG to PG" for underprivileged students enrolled in government educational institutions.
Speaking at the launch of the BJP's Sankalp Patra, senior party leader and MP Anurag Thakur announced additional incentives for Delhi's youth, including a one-time financial assistance of ₹15,000 for competitive exam preparation and reimbursement for up to two travel and application fee expenses.
Key Highlights from BJP's First Manifesto
The BJP's first manifesto, launched last week, focused on welfare measures for women and senior citizens. BJP national president JP Nadda emphasized that the document represents the party's vision for a "developed Delhi" and aims to rival the welfare-centric governance model of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Key promises include:
- Pro-Women Initiatives: Monthly financial aid of ₹2,500 under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, surpassing AAP’s ₹2,100 pledge, and a ₹21,000 assistance package for pregnant women under the Chief Minister Matritva Suraksha Yojana. This will also include six free nutrition kits for expectant mothers.
- Affordable LPG: Subsidized LPG cylinders at ₹500, with an additional free cylinder during Holi and Diwali for economically weaker sections.
- Pensions for Senior Citizens: Pension benefits increased to ₹2,500 for individuals aged 60-70 and ₹3,000 for senior citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities aged 70 and above.
Healthcare and Education
The BJP reiterated its commitment to healthcare reforms, pledging to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in its first Cabinet meeting. The scheme would offer an additional ₹5 lakh health coverage to residents.
A Welfare-Centric Agenda
Positioning itself as a pro-welfare party, BJP has promised to not only continue existing public welfare schemes but to enhance their efficiency by eliminating corruption.
The party’s comprehensive manifestos highlight its aim to address critical issues such as education, healthcare, and financial inclusion, signaling a strong focus on equitable growth.
Delhi's assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, 2025.
