Gandhi began his remarks by attacking the leadership of the ruling party, claiming that those in power today do not show respect for the nation’s symbols, such as the tricolour, nor do they uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. "The people who are in power today do not salute the tricolour, do not believe in the national flag, do not believe in the Constitution," he declared. "They have a completely different vision of India than we do," he added.
According to Gandhi, the current government, and its affiliates, want to create a political system dominated by a single figure, with no space for dissent. He accused the ruling leadership of seeking to suppress the voices of marginalized groups, including Dalits, minorities, backward castes, and tribals. "They want India to be run by one man and they want to crush the voice of this country," Gandhi asserted.
He further contended that the ruling party's agenda was rooted in a vision he views as undemocratic, claiming that their goal was to “crush the voices” of those who seek equality and justice in the country.
Congress, the Only Party to Stand Against RSS Ideology
In a statement underscoring his belief in Congress’ role in India's political future, Gandhi declared that his party was the only political force capable of halting the BJP’s vision. "There is no other party in this country that can stop them. The only party that can stop them is the Congress party," he said firmly.
He also took the opportunity to underline Congress' historical significance, emphasizing that its ideology was not a new one. "We are an ideological party and our ideology did not emerge yesterday. Our ideology, like the RSS ideology, is thousands of years old," he said. Gandhi also conveyed that Congress has been actively fighting the RSS ideology for centuries, reinforcing his party’s role in the ongoing ideological battle.
This sharp critique comes as Congress gears up for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, with the party aiming to present itself as the key alternative to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological affiliates. With tensions rising in the lead-up to the elections, Gandhi's statements add to the mounting political discourse surrounding India's future direction.
