Delhi, January 15, 2025: As the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, 2025, draw near, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has made bold statements about the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), predicting a "good success" for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming polls.
Puri, in a recent press interaction, asserted that the AAP's reign in Delhi is coming to an end, claiming that there is an "anti-incumbency wave" sweeping through the capital. He expressed confidence that the BJP’s candidate, Ramesh Bidhuri, would secure a decisive victory in the elections. #WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri says, "...On February 5, 'AAP-da' will end and BJP will get good success in Delhi, our candidate Ramesh Bidhuri will win...There is anti-incumbency wave, Yamuna has been turned into a drain. "On February 5, 'AAP-da' will end, and BJP will get good success in Delhi," Puri declared, highlighting what he perceives as widespread dissatisfaction with the current government's performance.
Accusations of Poor Governance and Corruption
The Union Minister targeted several key aspects of the AAP government’s tenure, alleging mismanagement in urban development and government spending. He pointed to the deteriorating condition of the Yamuna river, which he described as having "been turned into a drain," as a major failure of the AAP administration.
Puri also raised concerns over the capital’s air quality and infrastructure, emphasizing the challenges faced by residents due to inadequate roads.
"In Delhi, the air quality continues to worsen, and the condition of the roads is a major issue," Puri said, reinforcing the BJP’s narrative of ineffective governance under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In another scathing critique, Puri questioned Kejriwal’s personal integrity, referring to revelations in an RTI (Right to Information) response. According to Puri, the Delhi government has spent Rs 1.5 crore on cars for Kejriwal, contradicting the Chief Minister’s earlier pledge not to buy a car for himself. Additionally, Puri highlighted that Rs 50 lakh was spent on cars for Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, calling it a misuse of public funds.
"Arvind Kejriwal promised to not buy a car, but the RTI reply shows that Delhi government has spent Rs 1.5 crore on his cars. Rs 50 lakh was spent on Manish Sisodia's cars," Puri stated, labeling this as "personal corruption" within the AAP ranks.
BJP's CM Candidate Still Undecided
While Puri expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the elections, he added that the party had not yet decided who would be their Chief Ministerial candidate. "Our party will decide who will be our CM," he said, leaving the question open.
As the election date approaches, political analysts suggest that this could be a critical factor in shaping voter sentiment, as Delhi voters are expected to weigh the leadership and governance promises of both the BJP and AAP.
The BJP’s continued focus on governance issues and allegations of corruption within the AAP ranks comes as both parties intensify their campaigns in the run-up to the February 5 election. With the stakes high, all eyes are on the electoral battle for Delhi’s future.
