In the ensuing encounter, Saif was stabbed six times. The maid's hand was also injured. The helper who was taken to the hospital was admitted, but his injuries were not serious and he was later released. The 54-year-old actor was stabbed six times after confronting a thief. The attacker fled the scene after an argument with the actor. Police also reported that the thief met with Khan's maid before the actor intervened. After the attack, Khan was taken to the hospital by his son Ibrahim and a caretaker.
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital have confirmed that Saif Ali Khan, who was injured during the attack, is in a stable condition after undergoing surgery. Khan was admitted at around 2 am after a knife got stuck in his spine and sustained severe injuries to his thoracic spinal cord, said Dr. Nitin Dange.
The investigation team reached Khan's residence in Mumbai to conduct a detailed investigation into the attack on Khan.
Mumbai Police confirmed in a press conference that they have identified a suspect in connection with the crime. Police said the suspect entered Khan's house using a fire escape. The suspect entered the actor's house with the intention of robbing him.
"Last night, the accused used the fire escape ladder to enter Saif Ali Khan's house. It seems to be a robbery attempt. We are trying to arrest the accused. 10 detection teams are working on the case. A case has been registered at the Bandra police station," said DCP, Zone 9, Dixit Gedham.
The investigation into the incident of serious injuries after being stabbed is also focusing on the staff. The Bandra police revealed that the door to the attacker of Saif Ali Khan was opened by a maid at the actor's house. The police also said that they are questioning five members of Saif Ali Khan's staff for more information.
It is believed that the attacker entered the house two hours before Saif was attacked. He is not present in any of the CCTV footages immediately before the incident. The security guards of the apartment told the police that they did not see anyone entering the house. The police have concluded that there is a secret passage to Saif Ali Khan's flat, which leads to the actor's room, and that is how the attacker entered.
Renovation work is underway in Saif's housing society. Mumbai Police has decided to question these workers as well. The security guard informed the police that no one was seen entering the housing society illegally. The police are mainly investigating whether the house help helped the attacker enter the house.
"They were the ones who opened the door for the attacker who came to see the maid. Later, the two got into an argument at home. In the meantime, the attacker tried to molest the maid. This is when Saif Ali Khan arrived. Saif saw the stranger inside the house and questioned him, which escalated into a fight and the actor stabbed him," says an officer involved in the investigation team.
