Islamabad: Pakistan’s security forces successfully neutralized six militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Wednesday.
According to an official statement, the operation was carried out on January 29-30, 2025, following credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the region. Security forces launched an engagement, effectively targeting the militant hideout.
Two Soldiers Killed in Fierce Gun Battle
During the intense exchange of fire, Major Hamza Israr (29), a resident of Rawalpindi, and Sepoy Muhammad Naeem (26), a resident of Naseerabad, fought valiantly before making the ultimate sacrifice.
“Security forces are conducting sanitization operations in the area to eliminate any remaining threats,” the ISPR statement added.
Rising Terror Threats in Pakistan
Pakistan has been grappling with a surge in terror attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. The resurgence of militant activity follows the collapse of a fragile ceasefire agreement between the government and the TTP.
The past year, 2024, was the deadliest in a decade for Pakistan’s security forces, with at least 685 personnel losing their lives in 444 terror attacks. In total, 1,612 civilians and security personnel were killed, marking a 73% increase compared to 934 militants eliminated. This spike in violence represented a nine-year high, with an alarming 66% rise in overall fatalities compared to 2023. On average, seven lives were lost daily to terror-related violence.
Pakistan’s Resolve Against Terrorism
Reaffirming the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, the ISPR emphasized:
"Pakistan’s security forces remain steadfast in their mission to eliminate the menace of terrorism. The sacrifices of our brave soldiers only strengthen our resolve in this ongoing fight."
