Gujranwala, Pakistan (AFP): Two teenage sisters in Gujranwala, Pakistan, have been arrested for the alleged murder of their father. Police say the girls acted in revenge for repeated sexual abuse by the man.
The father was attacked on January 1st and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
According to Rizwan Tariq, a senior police official in Gujranwala, the girls stated they "decided amongst themselves to find a permanent solution" to the abuse. They reportedly obtained petrol from a motorcycle and set their father alight while he slept.
The girls, who are step-sisters, claim the elder sister had been subjected to rape for a year, while the younger sister alleges two attempted assaults.
While both mothers of the girls were aware of the abuse, they reportedly did not know of the planned revenge attack. To protect the identities of the minors, AFP has withheld the name of the deceased.
One of the girls' mothers has also been arrested, while the other is currently being questioned. "We expect to present them in court within a few days, upon completion of the investigation," stated Tariq.
FIR Details Abuse and Alleged Conspiracy
A copy of the First Information Report (FIR) dated January 1st, obtained by Dawn.com, details the incident. The complainant, the deceased's sibling, received a call at 5:00 AM on January 1st informing them of the victim's severe burns and transfer to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.
The FIR states that both wives and the two daughters resided in the same household. The complainant accuses the women of a "well-planned conspiracy," alleging they drugged the victim, restrained him, and set him on fire with petrol.
The report further claims the daughters confessed to the crime in an audio recording held by the complainant.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the case. The full extent of the abuse allegations and the mothers' involvement remain under investigation.
