New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Greater Kailash Assembly seat, Saurabh Bharadwaj, expressed confidence on Tuesday that his party is poised to secure a third consecutive term in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Highlighting the stark contrast between the electoral choices available to voters, Bharadwaj underscored AAP’s leadership, which he described as comprising “educated and accomplished individuals.” He cited Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), and Manish Sisodia, who has a background in media, as examples. In contrast, he questioned the suitability of BJP leaders such as Ramesh Bidhuri, Parvesh Verma, and Satish Upadhyay, implying that they lacked the necessary credentials to govern the national capital.
"The people of Delhi have two main options: one is AAP, led by educated professionals such as Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. On the other hand, the BJP presents leaders like Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma. I believe Delhiites will reject abuse and hooliganism and instead choose clean and professional governance under AAP," Bharadwaj stated.
Meanwhile, AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Delhi Police, alleging that their actions were facilitating “hooliganism against AAP” while shielding the BJP. Kejriwal accused both institutions of attempting to disrupt the electoral process in favor of the BJP, claiming that their focus was to “protect the interests of BJP while distributing liquor and money.”
Kejriwal’s remarks came after the Delhi Police registered a case against AAP leader Atishi for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. As the electoral contest intensifies, AAP leaders have accused their rivals of resorting to unfair practices.
On Monday, Kejriwal and Atishi held a roadshow in the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, where the AAP national convener predicted that his party would secure victory in at least 55 of the 70 assembly seats.
With Delhi set to vote in a single-phase election on February 5 and results scheduled for February 8, the political battle in the national capital has reached its peak. The contest remains a three-way fight among AAP, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress. While Congress, once dominant with a 15-year rule in Delhi, has struggled in recent elections, AAP has maintained its stronghold, winning 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections, leaving the BJP with only eight seats.
