Pune (Maharashtra) | February 27: Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Ramdas Kadam, has assured swift action in the recent rape case reported at Pune’s Swargate bus depot. Addressing the media, Kadam provided updates on the ongoing investigation, dismissing allegations of delayed police response.
"The incident at Swargate was reported the day before yesterday, and I am here today to review the situation. Police acted immediately upon receiving the complaint and launched an investigation. The accused is currently being traced, and he will be arrested soon," Kadam stated. He also refuted claims that the probe was initiated late, terming such reports as misinformation.
Commenting on the nature of the case, Kadam noted that it was unusual for the accused to be an unknown individual. "In most rape cases, the perpetrator is someone known to the victim or in contact with them. However, in this instance, the accused is a stranger, making it an exceptional case," he observed.
The minister also highlighted recent legislative amendments aimed at strengthening women's safety laws. "With the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), new provisions have been introduced, incorporating aspects of Maharashtra’s Shakti Criminal Laws to enhance protection for women," he added.

Pune City Police have launched an extensive search operation to apprehend the suspect, identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade, who has been on the run since Tuesday. To expedite his capture, authorities have announced a ₹1 lakh cash reward for any information leading to his arrest.
A total of 13 police teams have been deployed, including eight teams from the Crime Branch and five from Swargate Police Station. Officers have also been sent outside the district to widen the search.
Providing further updates, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smartana Patil stated, "Our teams have been working tirelessly since the incident. We have sent the bus for forensic examination, and efforts are being intensified to track down the accused."
DCP Patil also highlighted challenges in identifying the perpetrator due to his masked appearance during the attack. "The suspect had covered his face, making it difficult to recognize him immediately. However, our team has gathered substantial evidence to confirm his identity," she added.
Authorities remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice, urging citizens to report any relevant information to aid in the arrest of the accused.
