BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Seeks Privilege Motion Against Rahul Gandhi Over China Border Remarks

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has formally requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to initiate a Privilege Motion against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his statement in Parliament alleging the presence of Chinese troops on Indian soil.

Gandhi’s remarks on the India-China border dispute sparked a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing him of misleading the House. In his letter to the Speaker, Dubey asserted that Rahul Gandhi had “shamelessly distorted historical and substantive facts” and attempted to undermine India’s global standing.

A Breach of Privilege Notice is a legislative measure that can be invoked when a member is found to have misused their rights or misled the Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi's Remarks in Lok Sabha

During the debate on the Motion of Thanks on Monday, Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the Centre, attributing the alleged presence of Chinese troops on Indian soil to the failure of the Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. He further claimed that China had occupied over 4,000 sq km of Indian territory and accused the government of misleading the public on the border issue.

“The Prime Minister has denied it, but the Army has contradicted him, stating that China is occupying 4,000 sq km of our territory,” Gandhi stated.

In response, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla challenged Gandhi to provide evidence for his claims, emphasizing that statements made in the House must be backed by factual proof.

Allegations Against the Government

Gandhi further courted controversy by alleging that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had traveled to the United States in December 2024 to seek an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

Additionally, he questioned the Mahayuti alliance’s victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, demanding electoral data from the Election Commission of India to verify alleged discrepancies in voter additions.

With these statements drawing sharp reactions from the ruling party, the Privilege Motion request by Nishikant Dubey has set the stage for an intense political battle in Parliament.
