Former UK PM Rishi Sunak Visits Taj Mahal with Family

 Agra, February 17 – Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his family, visited the Taj Mahal on Saturday, taking in the iconic monument's breathtaking beauty under tight security arrangements.


Sunak was joined by his wife, Akshata Murty, mother-in-law Sudha Murty, and daughters Krishna and Anoushka. The family toured the historic site before signing the visitor’s book.

"A truly breathtaking visit. Few places in the world can unite like the Taj Mahal. Our children will never forget seeing this… We are so grateful for the warm hospitality. An unforgettable experience for our whole family. Thank you," Sunak wrote.

Akshata Murty also shared her sentiments, describing the visit as "a memory for the ages."

The family’s presence drew large crowds, eager to catch a glimpse of the former British leader. Sunak and his family acknowledged the public with warm waves and folded hands.

Sunak’s India Visit: Cricket, Literature, and Cultural Engagement

Sunak’s visit to India has included a range of cultural and sporting engagements. On February 2, he attended the fifth and final T20I match of the India-England series at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Reflecting on England’s performance, he remarked:

"Tough day for England at the Wankhede, but I know our team will come back stronger. Congratulations to Team India on the win."

Ahead of the match, Sunak met England captain Jos Buttler and Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav, sharing the experience with his father-in-law, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. Earlier that day, he participated in a game of tennis ball cricket, posting on X:

"No trip to Mumbai would be complete without a game of tennis ball cricket."

On February 1, Sunak and his family also attended the Jaipur Literature Festival, engaging in discussions on literature, politics, and global affairs.

Rishi Sunak: A Brief Political Profile

Rishi Sunak served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 2022 to July 2024. Prior to his tenure as Prime Minister, he held key positions in the UK government, including:

  • Chancellor of the Exchequer (2020–2022)
  • Chief Secretary to the Treasury (2019–2020)
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (2018–2019)

Before entering politics, Sunak had a distinguished career in business and finance, co-founding an investment firm that worked with companies across multiple geographies.

He was educated at Winchester College and later pursued Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) at Oxford University. He furthered his education as a Fulbright Scholar at Stanford University, USA, where he earned an MBA.

Sunak’s India visit reflects his deep personal and familial connections to the country, offering a mix of cultural immersion and high-profile engagements.
