Rohtak: A young man from Chidi village in Haryana, who had traveled to the United States in pursuit of a better future, has returned home after being deported—bringing with him a harrowing tale of hardship and despair. His family, which had taken a substantial loan of ₹65 lakh, sold their milch animals, and parted with their only agricultural tractor to fund his journey, is now pleading with the government for justice.
The victim, Sandeep, had left India three months ago through unauthorized channels, hoping to secure a stable livelihood in America. However, instead of opportunities, he faced relentless hardship. After enduring months of grueling travel, he was arrested upon arrival and detained in a U.S. jail. According to Sandeep, he was subjected to inhumane conditions, deprived of sunlight, and forced to eat food against his religious beliefs.
On February 13, Sandeep was taken out of detention, believing he was about to have his case processed. Instead, he was placed in shackles—his hands, legs, and body restrained—before being forcibly deported to India. Upon arrival at the airport, his phone was confiscated, and he was allegedly warned against speaking out.
Sandeep’s family, already burdened by financial distress, is now facing increasing pressure from lenders demanding repayment. His brother revealed that the family had hoped Sandeep’s migration would uplift their financial situation, but instead, they are now grappling with mounting debt. Adding to their plight, the agent who had facilitated Sandeep’s journey had assured them of employment in California or a full refund—neither of which has materialized.
The family is now urging the government to intervene and take action against fraudulent immigration agents, while also seeking support to recover their financial losses. Sandeep’s story underscores the perils of illegal migration and the urgent need for stronger protections for individuals falling prey to such deceptive schemes.
