Lucknow: Badal Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Nagla Khatkari village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, is currently imprisoned in a Pakistani jail after illegally entering the country to meet a woman he fell in love with on Facebook. Singh, who crossed the border without a passport or visa, was arrested by Punjab Police of Pakistan in the Mandi Bahauddin area on December 27, 2024.
On Monday, his bail plea was heard in a Karachi court, where his defense argued for his release. During the proceedings, Singh pleaded before the judge, stating, "Sir, I came to Pakistan for my love. I was unaware that a visa was required between the two countries. I took a bus to Amritsar and then secretly entered Pakistan. Please grant me bail." However, after deliberations, the court rejected his bail plea, setting the next hearing for March 10.
The Case Background
Singh’s ordeal began when he met a Pakistani woman on Facebook and developed a romantic relationship with her. Determined to pursue their love, he made multiple unsuccessful attempts to cross the India-Pakistan border. On his third attempt, he managed to enter Pakistan but was arrested shortly after.
During interrogation, Singh failed to produce any valid travel documents, leading to his arrest under Sections 13 and 14 of Pakistan’s Foreigners Act, 1946. He was later presented in court and sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Legal and Diplomatic Efforts
Following his arrest, Singh appealed to the authorities and sought assistance from the Indian Embassy in Pakistan. However, with his bail plea rejected, legal efforts continue for his release. The police claim that Singh allegedly met the woman he traveled for before his arrest. At present, he remains in a Pakistani jail, while diplomatic channels explore possible solutions to secure his return to India.
