Ladki Bahin Scheme to Continue Uninterrupted, Assures Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Maharashtra Thane, February 4, 2025

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reaffirmed the Mahayuti government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of women, assuring that the Ladki Bahin scheme will continue without disruption.

The scheme, which provides monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500 to women, is widely regarded as a key factor in the BJP-led coalition's significant victory in the November 2024 state assembly elections. The ruling alliance, comprising Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, has positioned the initiative as a cornerstone of its social welfare agenda.

Government’s Commitment to Social Welfare and Housing Development

Speaking at an event in Thane on Monday, Shinde emphasized that the government remains steadfast in its social welfare initiatives, particularly those benefiting women.

"The Mahayuti government will never allow the Ladki Bahin scheme to be discontinued. Our responsibility has grown as the people have given us another opportunity to serve them," said Shinde, who also holds charge of the housing and urban development portfolios.

Beyond welfare schemes, Shinde addressed concerns regarding long-pending housing projects across Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and other parts of Maharashtra. He assured that stalled development projects, some of which have remained incomplete for over 25 years, would now be expedited and completed within a time-bound framework.

Cluster Development: A Revolutionary Housing Initiative

Highlighting the cluster development scheme introduced by the Maharashtra government, Shinde termed it as a one-of-a-kind initiative globally, aimed at addressing long-standing shortcomings of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme.

The cluster approach will ensure inclusive rehabilitation, particularly benefiting residents excluded from the SRA scheme due to residing on upper floors of buildings.

"The cluster scheme will provide a comprehensive solution for all rehabilitation and development challenges, ensuring that every affected family receives the benefits they rightfully deserve," he stated.

Shinde Promises Action Over Rhetoric

In a pointed remark directed at political opponents, Shinde asserted that his government believes in action rather than mere announcements.

"We do not rely on showcasing pictures or making grand declarations—we take action and deliver results. Now that I am the Housing Minister, I will personally ensure that long-pending projects finally see completion," he declared.

The Mahayuti government’s focus on infrastructure development and welfare initiatives reinforces its commitment to improving livelihoods, housing, and social security across Maharashtra.
