New Delhi, February 4, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday delivered his 14th reply to the Motion of Thanks in the Lok Sabha, launching a scathing attack on the opposition while outlining his government’s achievements and vision for a developed India (Viksit Bharat). The speech, delivered just a day before the Delhi Assembly elections, targeted key political adversaries, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress.
Criticism of Arvind Kejriwal and AAP
PM Modi took direct aim at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of prioritizing personal luxury over public welfare. Referring to the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s residence, Modi stated, “Some leaders are focused on jacuzzis and stylish showers in their homes, while we are committed to bringing water to every household.”
He further attacked AAP, highlighting allegations of corruption within the party. “In the past, newspaper headlines were dominated by scams. Over the last ten years, we have saved crores of rupees, redirecting them towards public welfare. Instead of building a ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ we have used those funds to build the nation,” he asserted.
Attack on Congress and Rahul Gandhi
The Prime Minister also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of speaking the language of "urban naxals" and misrepresenting India’s interests on foreign soil.
"Those who have photo sessions in the huts of the poor for their own entertainment will find the mention of the poor in Parliament boring," Modi said, in an apparent jibe at Gandhi.
He criticized Congress for ignoring OBC representation, stating, “For 30 years, OBC MPs demanded Constitutional status for the OBC Commission, but those who now claim to champion caste politics ignored it. We ensured OBCs, SCs, and STs get more opportunities across all sectors.”
Vision for a Developed India by 2047
PM Modi emphasized his government’s roadmap for a "Viksit Bharat", asserting that by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence, the country will be a fully developed nation.
"This is just our third term. We are committed to building a modern, capable India that meets the needs of the 21st century. The next two decades will shape the country's future, and we will work tirelessly towards our goal," he declared.
Defending Constitutional Unity and Jammu & Kashmir
The Prime Minister also addressed issues of national unity and constitutional integrity, criticizing those who he claimed undermine India's sovereignty.
"For seven decades, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were deprived of their constitutional rights. This was not only an injustice to the people but also to the Constitution itself. Our government has made strong decisions to rectify these historical wrongs," he stated.
Infrastructure and Social Welfare Achievements
Highlighting the government’s achievements, PM Modi noted that 4 crore houses have been provided to the poor, alongside 12 crore toilets, transforming the lives of millions. “Those who have always had basic facilities cannot understand the struggles of those who suffered without them,” he remarked.
He also praised President Droupadi Murmu’s Address, saying it laid the foundation for trust, confidence, and inspiration for India's next 25 years.
