Loan Fraud Suspect Arrested in Patna; Cybercrime Network Under Investigation

Patna : In a significant crackdown on cyber fraud, Patna police have arrested an individual involved in an online loan scam. The accused was taken into custody from a flat on the third floor of Ramlal Apartment in Nirala Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Digha Police Station. The arrest was made by the Digha police station's day patrol team following a detailed investigation, as confirmed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police on Saturday.

Modus Operandi: Deceptive Loan Promises

The arrested individual has been identified as Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Katrisarai police station limits in Nalanda district. He was running a fraudulent operation by posting advertisements on Facebook, claiming to provide loans through the Dhani Finance app. These advertisements lured unsuspecting individuals who provided their mobile numbers in hopes of securing a loan. Once contacted, the fraudsters, including Ranjan Kumar and his associates, falsely assured loan approvals and demanded a processing fee, ultimately defrauding victims.

Organized Cyber Fraud Network

Authorities have discovered that at least five other individuals were involved in the scam, all of whom are currently absconding. The investigation revealed that a key accomplice, Nitish Yadav, also known as Manish, supplied fake mobile SIM cards and fraudulent bank accounts to facilitate the scam. He reportedly took a 40% share of the illicit earnings before distributing the remaining amount among the fraudsters.

The Patna Cyber Police have registered a case against the arrested suspect and placed him in judicial custody. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the cyber fraud network. During the raid, law enforcement officials seized a significant number of items linked to the fraudulent operation, including 13 mobile phones, one laptop, nine ATM cards, 10 SIM cards, three Aadhaar cards, and one key card. Additionally, authorities confiscated various electronic accessories such as a mouse, two chargers, an AC remote, and a printer. The investigation remains active, with police intensifying their efforts to dismantle the cybercrime syndicate and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.
